In the Pockets of Dreams by Wendy Schultz
Dave Peltier, a 26 year-old computer systems representative, is, according to his own view, an ordinary guy. When a painting purchased from Astrella's Antiques and Curios catapults Dave into a powerful dream experience, it also triggers a long-suppressed talent from his childhood. As Dave's ordinary life is forever changed, he is forced to rethink who, or what, he might be and whether the woman he loves will be able to accept him.
Where to find "In the Pockets of Dreams"
This 256 page novel is my first published novel. It is available at Amazon.com in both Kindle and softcover versions; as an ebook at Barnes & Noble and iTunes Store, as well as Kobu.
On the horizon
Book number two has been completed, right down to both developmental and copy edits. Although this novel about a nine year-old faith healer who loses her faith and builds a life without the help of religion, God or angels is not a paranormal story, some of the characters and elements from "In the Pockets of Dreams" appear like Easter eggs in it. Titled, "Home of the Dragonfly," it covers the life of Mary-Kate/Hosanna Watling Paulette Falkner Chapman on her journey from credulous child faith healer to betrayed teenage fugitive to determined self-reliant adult who believes in nothing but her own abilities. Polly has a lot of names, but there are reasons.
Book number three also borrows from "In the Pockets of Dreams." Barry McGrath from the Orphan Train is the main character in this story of a boy's search for his father across 1920's America. Mentors in hobo jungles , encounters with the KKK, and Depression-weary farmers guide Barry along the " Road of Polished Stones."
One hundred and seventy pages into "Road of Polished Stones," I decided to shelve it for a while and start another novel. That novel, currently untitled, is now a completed first draft. Fresno Bakersfield Ingersoll loathes her embarrassing name. When she takes steps to change it, it becomes a secret that she shares with none of her new friends, but that's not the only secret Fresno has. She's a baby channeler. She can hear them before they are born; she knows what they are feeling and what they need. Having two secrets makes her different and she just wants to be normal.
